Remembering and Honoring Darrell Lowe
With deep gratitude and sadness, Faith Foundation Northwest remembers the life and service of our beloved board member and friend, Darrell Lowe, who passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, at the age of 89.
Darrell’s journey was devoted to faith, family, and community. Born on February 29, 1936, in Manhattan, Kansas, he pursued his love of flight through a distinguished career in aerospace engineering. His professional journey took him from the Atlas and Centaur missile programs to GE Aircraft Engines, where one highlight was his family’s move to France in 1974 to support the development of the CFM56 aircraft engine. Darrell retired from GE in 1998 after decades of meaningful work.
Darrell’s commitment to service extended far beyond his career. At Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Bellevue, he offered steady leadership, helping to design, fund, and build the sanctuary and other upgrades to the facility. He dedicated countless hours to Habitat for Humanity, including participating in conference-sponsored blitz builds and the “Building Together” program, which brought Christians, Muslims, and Jews together in service. He participated in work parties to build or improve camp director houses at Indianola, Ocean Park, and Lazy F, as well as children’s play equipment at White Swan UMC. Darrell served for eight years on the Council on Finance and Administration for the Pacific Northwest Annual Conference. In recognition of his outstanding leadership, he was awarded the Bishop’s Award in 2013.
His faith and generosity also guided his long relationship with Faith Foundation Northwest, where he began serving on the board in 1999 and was elected president just two years later. For twelve years, Darrell led our board with wisdom, humor, and devotion. He played a pivotal role in strengthening our mission, shaping our governance, and guiding major initiatives, including the Sacred Space Campaign to preserve Camp Indianola and the successful merger of two regional foundations. After his term as board president ended, he continued his service as a full board member until his death, for a total of 26 continuous years of service!
In recognition of his vision and dedication, the Faith Foundation Board of Directors adopted a resolution naming Darrell a Board Member Emeritus (Posthumous). This honor reflects his profound and lasting impact on our mission, our ministries, and our people. A framed copy of this resolution will be presented to his wife, Livonia, with our love and gratitude.
Darrell’s legacy is woven into the life of this Foundation. His generous spirit, thoughtful counsel, and steady leadership have left a lasting mark. We will remember him not only for his faithful service, but also for the joy he brought to those around him.
A service to celebrate Darrell’s life will be held on Saturday, September 27, at 2:00 PM at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Bellevue, followed by a reception in Friendship Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity or to Communities of Belonging in Seattle.
We give thanks for Darrell’s life, his faith, and his many gifts of leadership, and we hold Livonia and the Lowe family in our prayers.
Further details on Darrell’s exemplary life and impact can be found in the Emeritus Resolution and his obituary.
